Marquette, MI – Northern Michigan residents should prepare for hazardous conditions as a Winter Weather Advisory takes effect early Wednesday. Lake effect snow is expected to bring significant accumulation to parts of the Upper Peninsula.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory covers Ontonagon and Northern Houghton Counties, with snow totals ranging from 2 to 5 inches. Nearby Alger and Luce Counties may see even higher amounts, up to 6 inches. The advisory is active from 1 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with slippery road conditions expected to impact both morning and evening commutes.

Forecasters warn that lake effect snow can create rapidly changing weather conditions, with visibility shifting drastically within short distances. Drivers are urged to slow down and remain cautious, especially in areas prone to heavy snowfall.

Snow is expected to continue throughout the workweek, particularly in the northwest wind snow belts. Residents should plan for delays and monitor local updates for evolving forecasts.
