Fort Wayne, IN – Winter weather is sweeping across northern Indiana, bringing lake effect snow and freezing temperatures through the week. Residents south of US 30 can expect snow showers beginning late Thursday, with impacts lingering into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, a clipper system will bring light snow accumulations of up to one inch to parts of the region Thursday night into early Friday. Areas north of US 6 will experience lake effect snow throughout Wednesday, with potential accumulations of up to one inch. Highs on Thursday will range from 28–32°F, dropping sharply into the low 20s by Friday.

Road conditions could become hazardous due to icy patches and reduced visibility, especially during peak snow times Thursday night and Friday morning. Officials recommend limiting travel and allowing extra time for commutes. Wind gusts up to 25 mph may exacerbate blowing snow, making driving dangerous in some areas.

The weekend forecast remains cold, with Saturday highs struggling to reach 25°F and overnight lows dropping into the mid-teens. Partly sunny skies may offer brief relief, but residents should prepare for persistent chilly weather.
