Buffalo, NY – A Lake Effect Snow Warning has been issued for areas near Lake Erie and Lake Ontario starting Wednesday. Residents should prepare for up to three feet of snow and gusty winds up to 40 mph.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the warning remains in effect through Sunday. Communities east of the lakes will experience the greatest snowfall, with Buffalo and Rochester receiving lesser amounts. Blowing snow and localized bands will create poor travel conditions.
Difficult driving is expected, especially in areas with heavier snow accumulation. Winds will reduce visibility and increase the risk of travel delays. Local authorities urge residents to monitor updates and avoid unnecessary travel.
NWS forecasts indicate the most intense snowfall will occur Wednesday evening through Friday night. Crews are preparing to clear roads and assist with emergencies. Residents should stock up on essentials and remain indoors during peak storm hours.
The storm is expected to ease by Sunday, but drifting snow and cold temperatures may continue to impact affected areas into next week.
