Cleveland, OH – Northeast Ohio is preparing for significant snowfall as a lake effect snow warning goes into effect Wednesday morning. The warning, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS), predicts accumulations between 8 and 14 inches across Geauga County, with winds gusting up to 35 mph.

According to the NWS, the warning begins at 7 a.m. Wednesday and extends through 7 p.m. Thursday. Hazardous road conditions are expected, with bridges and overpasses likely becoming slick. Visibility may drop below a quarter mile during snow squalls, making travel dangerous.

Officials urge residents to delay nonessential travel. If travel is unavoidable, motorists should carry winter storm kits, including flashlights, food, water, and blankets. The Ohio Department of Transportation recommends extreme caution on roadways and advises checking updates at www.ohgo.com.

The snowfall results from a low-pressure system transitioning rain to snow across the region. Heavier snow is forecast for northern areas, particularly near higher elevations. After a brief lull Thursday, snow squalls may return Friday, extending hazardous conditions into the weekend.

Residents should monitor forecasts for updates and prepare for rapidly changing weather. Safety precautions and reduced travel are strongly advised.
