Caribou, ME – Maine residents should prepare for hazardous winter weather beginning tonight with patchy freezing drizzle. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns conditions will worsen as a storm system develops Wednesday.

According to the NWS, freezing drizzle will affect areas from Houlton to Greenville through the night. Precipitation will intensify Wednesday morning, bringing moderate to heavy rain, snow, and ice through Thursday. Elevation will play a critical role in snow accumulation, with higher areas seeing more snowfall.

The storm’s heaviest impacts will stretch from Greenville to Fort Kent, including Bangor and Downeast areas. Snowfall totals vary widely, with rain and snow mixing in lower elevations. Travel will become increasingly hazardous, especially in the North Woods and surrounding regions.

This system will move northeast through Thursday, impacting communities from Millinocket to Dover-Foxcroft. NWS advises extreme caution during this period as temperatures fluctuate and precipitation continues.
