North Carolina New Year’s Day Forecast: Clear Skies and Cooler Temperatures Expected Wednesday

Raleigh, NC – North Carolinians ringing in the New Year can expect a mild and breezy end to 2024, followed by sunny skies on Wednesday. While scattered showers may impact New Year’s Eve celebrations tonight, clear weather is expected as 2025 begins.

According to the National Weather Service, gusty winds ranging from 20 to 30 mph and a 30% chance of rain are forecast for Raleigh tonight between 6 and 9 p.m. Greensboro and Fayetteville will see similar conditions, with showers most likely between 3 and 7 p.m. and 7 and 10 p.m., respectively. Midnight temperatures will hover around 46°F in Greensboro, 51°F in Raleigh, and 54°F in Fayetteville.

New Year’s Day will bring sunny skies and mild conditions, with a high of 55°F in Raleigh and similar temperatures statewide. Winds will remain steady, reaching up to 15 mph, but precipitation is not expected.

Looking ahead, cooler temperatures will settle in later this week. Wednesday night will see lows near 31°F, while Thursday’s high will reach 49°F. By Saturday, daytime highs will dip to 39°F with lows near 24°F.
