Blacksburg, VA – Strong winds continue across southwest Virginia today, with gusts up to 50 mph in higher elevations. A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 3 p.m., posing risks of downed tree limbs and isolated power outages.
According to the National Weather Service, west winds of 15 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph in the mountains and 40 mph in valleys, will gradually weaken by late afternoon. Drivers, especially those with high-profile vehicles, should exercise caution.
Looking ahead, a midweek warm-up precedes a rainy pattern. Wednesday brings sunny skies with highs near 50°F, while Thursday will see increasing clouds and highs in the low 50s. By late Thursday night, rain is likely, with an 80% chance of showers continuing into Friday.
Weekend Outlook: Rain tapers off Friday night, leaving partly cloudy skies Saturday with highs in the mid-40s. A brief cool-down arrives Sunday, with morning lows in the 20s and highs in the upper 40s.
