Indianapolis, IN – Central Indiana is set to experience frigid temperatures and winter weather this week, with wind chills dropping to -3°F and snow returning Tuesday. A wintry mix is also expected late Sunday night, potentially creating slick roads by Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures on Monday will reach a high of 20°F, with a west wind making it feel much colder. Snowfall is likely Tuesday, with a 40% chance of accumulation throughout the day and highs only near 16°F. Wind chills during morning and evening hours will dip as low as -3°F, increasing the risk of frostbite for anyone exposed to the cold for extended periods.

Travelers on major roads like I-70 and I-465 are urged to use caution, as icy patches may form overnight and snow could reduce visibility on Tuesday. Local authorities also emphasize safety around frozen lakes and ponds, warning that ice remains too thin to safely support weight.

The rest of the week will remain cold, with highs around 16°F on Wednesday under mostly sunny skies. A slight warming trend is forecast by Thursday, with temperatures reaching 30°F. However, frigid conditions are expected to return by the weekend.

Residents should bundle up, limit outdoor exposure, and keep an eye on updated weather alerts to stay safe.
