Shreveport, LA – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until noon today, as freezing rain and sleet create hazardous conditions across Louisiana roadways, including I-30. Light precipitation is expected to end by midday, but lingering moisture will refreeze tonight, causing black ice on bridges and overpasses.
According to the National Weather Service, snow and sleet accumulation will range from one to three inches, primarily north of I-30. Drivers should exercise extreme caution, particularly in the northern parts of the state where road conditions remain treacherous. Power outages have been reported in some areas due to ice accumulation on power lines.
This afternoon, temperatures will hover near 37°F before dipping to 26°F tonight, keeping roads icy into Saturday morning. Saturday promises a brief reprieve with sunny skies and a high of 45°F. By Sunday, conditions will warm further, reaching 53°F, but overnight lows will still drop below freezing.
The five-day forecast shows mostly sunny skies dominating the start of next week, with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s. However, nighttime lows will stay in the 20s, requiring continued caution for icy conditions during early morning commutes.
Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel today and ensure vehicles are equipped with emergency supplies, including flashlights, blankets, and water. For those venturing out, check local road conditions by calling 511 or visiting weather.gov.
