Western Michigan Winter Weather Advisory: Snow to Impact Roads Through Saturday Morning

Grand Rapids, MI – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Allegan, Kalamazoo, Ottawa, Van Buren, and Muskegon counties starting Friday morning and lasting until early Saturday. Snowfall of 2 to 5 inches is expected, making roadways slippery and hazardous, particularly during Friday’s evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory begins at 8 a.m. Friday and will remain in place until 4 a.m. Saturday. Snowfall will intensify throughout the day Friday, with southwesterly winds gusting up to 21 mph, reducing visibility. Commuters should allow extra time and avoid unnecessary travel during peak snowfall hours. Bridges and overpasses will be especially treacherous.

Friday’s high will reach 29°F, dropping to 22°F overnight as snow showers continue into Saturday morning. Roads will remain slick, particularly in shaded or untreated areas, into the weekend. Residents are advised to keep emergency kits in their vehicles and monitor road conditions through local updates.

Looking ahead, Saturday offers a brief respite with highs near 31°F and partly cloudy skies during the day. Snow returns late Saturday night into Sunday, with another 1 to 2 inches possible by early Sunday morning. The extended forecast includes snow showers likely through Monday, with lows plunging to 12°F by Monday night.

Residents are urged to stay informed by checking local forecasts and heeding travel advisories. Those in the affected areas should prepare for hazardous driving conditions through the weekend.
