Jackson, KY – A powerful winter storm is set to sweep through eastern and southeastern Kentucky, bringing heavy snow and dangerous travel conditions. Snowfall is expected to begin Friday morning and persist through Saturday morning.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Winter Storm Warning for portions of east central, south central, and southeast Kentucky, including cities like London, Hazard, and Harlan. Snow accumulations between 3 and 6 inches are forecasted. The warning begins at 7 a.m. Friday and will remain in effect until 10 a.m. Saturday.

According to the NWS, hazardous road conditions are likely to impact both the Friday morning and evening commutes. Authorities urge drivers to prepare for slippery roads and limited visibility. Those traveling should carry an emergency kit, including a flashlight, food, and water.

Local officials are monitoring the storm and advising residents to avoid unnecessary travel. Crews will treat roads, but rapidly accumulating snow could still pose risks. Residents are encouraged to check for updates on road conditions at GoKY.

Temperatures will remain below freezing during the storm, making snow accumulation and icy patches more severe. Widespread school and business closures are possible. Residents should stock up on essential supplies and ensure heating systems function properly.

This storm marks the second major winter weather event in the region this season. With significant snowfall expected, residents are reminded to prioritize safety and remain vigilant.
