Norman, OK – A winter storm is delivering heavy snow and ice across central and southern Oklahoma. Accumulations are expected to reach 7 inches in some areas by Friday. Hazardous road conditions will impact travel through Friday morning.

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning in effect until noon Friday for several counties, including Norman, Shawnee, and Ada. According to the agency, snowfall is likely to accumulate between 4 and 7 inches in southeast Oklahoma, with central counties expecting up to 5 inches. Light ice accumulation is also anticipated, exacerbating road hazards.

Officials urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel. Those needing to commute should prepare for slippery roads and reduced visibility. Precautionary measures include keeping emergency supplies, such as a flashlight, food, and water, in vehicles. Road condition updates are available by dialing 511.

The heaviest snow is forecast for Thursday night into Friday morning, affecting communities like Durant, Ardmore, and Waurika. Impacts could extend into the Friday morning commute, with delays and possible closures expected. Power outages may occur in areas with combined ice and snow loads.
