New Mexico – Snow continues to blanket central and southeastern New Mexico, creating hazardous travel conditions Thursday. The National Weather Service (NWS) reports snowfall accumulations could reach up to 8 inches in mountainous regions.

According to the NWS, the advisory remains in effect until 11 p.m. tonight. Snowfall amounts range from 1 to 3 inches in lower elevations and 3 to 8 inches in highlands above 7,500 feet. Wind gusts of up to 40 mph are expected, increasing the risk of blowing snow and reduced visibility.

Travelers on Interstate 40, particularly from Clines Corners to the Texas border, should anticipate snow-packed roads. Officials warn of slick conditions and low visibility, urging drivers to reduce speed and remain vigilant. Blowing snow may also complicate the evening commute.

The West Central Highlands area may see up to 2 additional inches of snowfall today. Road conditions in this region remain treacherous, with icy patches and drifting snow causing travel delays.

Residents are advised to take precautions when venturing outdoors. Surfaces such as stairs, sidewalks, and driveways may be icy, increasing the risk of slips and falls. Motorists can check road updates by dialing 511 or visiting nmroads.com.

The snowstorm is part of a larger weather system affecting much of the central U.S. this week. Forecasters suggest monitoring updates closely as conditions could change rapidly.
