Indianapolis, IN – A winter weather advisory is in effect for much of central and southern Indiana starting early Friday morning. Forecasters predict snow accumulations between 2 to 4 inches, impacting roads and commutes.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory will begin at 4 a.m. Friday and remain in place until 4 a.m. Saturday. Southeastern and southern parts of the region are expected to see the heaviest snowfall, with totals nearing the 4-inch mark. Gradually lighter snow is forecast in the northwest.

Road conditions will deteriorate quickly, especially on bridges and overpasses. Slippery surfaces are expected to create hazardous travel conditions for both the morning and evening commutes. Officials urge drivers to reduce speeds and remain cautious while traveling.

The snowstorm comes with additional risks for pedestrians. Stairs, sidewalks, and driveways may freeze, increasing the likelihood of falls. Indiana State Police remind residents to use extra caution outdoors and dress warmly.

This marks the season’s first significant snowfall for Indiana, and local road crews are preparing to treat surfaces throughout the region. However, drivers should plan for delays and avoid unnecessary travel if possible.

Residents can check the latest road conditions by dialing 511 or visiting Indiana’s road condition website. The National Weather Service recommends preparing for slippery roads and ensuring vehicles are winter-ready.
