Raleigh, NC – A Winter Storm Watch is set to take effect Friday afternoon across central North Carolina, bringing snow, sleet, and freezing rain. Residents should prepare for hazardous road conditions and potential travel delays through Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), snow is expected to develop after 10 p.m. Friday, transitioning to sleet and freezing rain by early Saturday. Accumulations of up to half an inch of ice and less than an inch of snow are forecasted. The areas most affected include Raleigh, Durham, Fayetteville, and surrounding counties.

Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel after conditions deteriorate. If driving is essential, keep an emergency kit in your vehicle and check for updated road conditions. Power outages are possible in areas with significant ice buildup.

The weather outlook for the weekend includes sunny skies returning by Saturday afternoon, with highs near 41°F. Sunday will remain clear and slightly warmer, with highs in the mid-40s. A calm stretch of weather is expected to continue through Monday.

Local officials urge residents to monitor updates from NWS Raleigh and be prepared for sudden changes in the forecast. Travel disruptions along major roads like I-40 and I-85 are likely.
