Springfield, IL – Snow is expected to move into Illinois and Missouri late Thursday night, creating hazardous travel conditions for the Friday morning commute. Forecasters predict 2-4 inches of snow across central Illinois and Missouri, with locally higher amounts of 3-5 inches possible in southeastern areas.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for much of the region, warning of slippery roads and reduced visibility. Snow will begin late Thursday evening and intensify overnight, impacting major routes like I-70 and I-55. Drivers should allow extra travel time and use caution during the morning rush.
The snow is expected to taper off by Friday afternoon, but untreated surfaces may remain icy as temperatures hover around freezing. Friday’s high will reach 32°F, with mostly cloudy skies persisting into the evening.
Looking ahead, the weekend brings calmer weather, with partly sunny skies on Saturday and a high near 33°F. A cold front will move through early next week, keeping temperatures in the 20s and 30s.
Residents are urged to monitor weather updates and plan ahead for Friday’s hazardous travel conditions.
