Nashville, TN – A major winter storm is set to hit Middle Tennessee on Friday, with up to six inches of snow forecast. Travel across the region, including Nashville and cities along I-40, will be significantly impacted, with roads likely turning treacherous by Friday evening.
According to the National Weather Service, light snow will move into the area early Friday morning before intensifying through the day. The heaviest snowfall is expected late Friday into Friday night, with totals ranging from three to six inches across the region. Roads are expected to become snow-covered and slick, particularly in Nashville, Clarksville, and Columbia.
Residents are advised to avoid non-essential travel on Friday, especially during the evening commute. For those who must travel, ensure vehicles are stocked with an emergency kit, including flashlights, blankets, and food. Parking lots, sidewalks, and secondary roads are also likely to be icy, with freezing conditions persisting into Saturday morning.
A cold weather pattern will follow the storm, with daytime highs reaching the mid-30s over the weekend but freezing temperatures at night. Any snowmelt during the day will refreeze overnight, creating additional hazards. Sunny skies are forecast for Saturday and Sunday, but travelers should remain cautious on untreated surfaces.
The National Weather Service will provide updates via a live Facebook broadcast at 6 p.m. Thursday, offering the latest details on the storm and answering public questions.
For the week ahead, temperatures are expected to stay cold, with highs in the mid-30s to 40s and lows dipping into the teens. Another chance of snow showers could return early next week.
