Lubbock, TX – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect across the South Plains, including Lubbock, until 6 a.m. Friday. Forecasters are warning of icy roads, freezing rain, and snow accumulations of up to 4 inches in some areas. Travelers along US 84 and other major routes should prepare for hazardous conditions throughout Thursday and early Friday.

According to the National Weather Service, a wintry mix will move through the region Thursday morning, transitioning to snow by the afternoon. A light glaze of ice is expected in the morning hours, increasing the risk of slippery roads. Commuters are urged to allow extra travel time and exercise caution, particularly during the evening rush hour.

Thursday’s high is forecast at 32°F, with a low of 23°F overnight. Winds of 10–15 mph may exacerbate visibility issues in areas of heavy snowfall. On Friday, conditions are expected to improve, with partly sunny skies and a high near 38°F.

Looking ahead, warmer and clearer weather is forecast for the weekend. Saturday brings sunny skies and a high of 54°F, while Sunday will be mostly sunny with a high near 47°F. Travelers should monitor conditions closely before resuming normal travel, especially if road crews are still clearing ice and snow.

Residents are advised to check for updates on road conditions by dialing 511 or visiting the Texas Department of Transportation’s website. The NWS recommends limiting unnecessary travel and keeping an emergency kit in vehicles during this storm.
