Greenville, MS – Residents across southeast Arkansas, northeast Louisiana, and northwest Mississippi should prepare for winter weather as snow and ice are forecast. The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory from noon Thursday to midnight Friday night.
According to the advisory, up to 1 inch of snow and ice accumulations of about one-tenth of an inch are expected. This mix of precipitation will create hazardous road conditions, particularly during the Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes.
Affected cities include Greenville, Bastrop, Hamburg, Eudora, and Crossett. Local officials urge drivers to slow down and remain cautious. “These conditions can become dangerous quickly, especially on untreated surfaces,” the Mississippi Department of Transportation stated Wednesday night.
Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing throughout the duration of the storm. Emergency responders and road maintenance crews are on alert to address icy roads and weather-related accidents.
Local authorities recommend keeping vehicles stocked with emergency supplies, including blankets, flashlights, and water, in case of delays or accidents.
The advisory remains in effect through midnight Friday night. Residents can obtain up-to-date road conditions by dialing 511 for their state’s road information hotline.
Weather conditions like this are rare in the region but pose significant risks for travel and power outages. Experts emphasize taking precautions now to avoid disruptions later this week.
