Western Grant, WV – A winter storm is sweeping across Western Grant and Pendleton counties, bringing up to 4 inches of snow by Thursday morning. Strong winds reaching 50 mph are worsening visibility and increasing the risk of dangerous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm will last until noon on Thursday. Gusty winds combined with heavy snowfall may reduce visibility to under a quarter mile. Slick and hazardous roadways, particularly bridges and overpasses, are expected to complicate the morning commute. The storm may also cause tree branches to fall, creating additional hazards for motorists.

Officials are urging residents to stay indoors and delay travel plans if possible. For those who must venture out, the National Weather Service recommends dressing in layers to protect against frostbite or hypothermia. Motorists should carry an emergency kit with essentials such as a flashlight, food, and water.

Local authorities have advised extreme caution for anyone traveling during the storm. Wind gusts may cause snowdrifts, making roads even more treacherous. Residents are encouraged to monitor updates by calling 511 for real-time road conditions and advisories.

With conditions expected to improve by midday Thursday, travelers should prepare for disruptions. Stay indoors, stay informed, and prioritize safety during this winter storm.
