Fort Worth, TX – Hazardous ice conditions are expected across North Texas starting Thursday night, with roadways becoming treacherous by Friday morning. Meteorologists warn that ice accumulation may reach up to 0.15 inches, creating slick and dangerous surfaces.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Fort Worth, a 10% chance exists for isolated areas to see as much as 0.25 inches of ice. These conditions could cause isolated power outages and tree damage. Areas at the highest risk include those highlighted in orange on NWS maps, such as Waco, Centerville, and parts of the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Forecasters emphasized that even small amounts of ice can significantly impact travel. Roads and bridges may freeze, leading to hazardous driving conditions. The most dangerous period is expected from Thursday night into Friday morning as temperatures drop below freezing.

Residents are advised to monitor updated forecasts and limit travel during the ice storm. Bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads are particularly vulnerable to freezing and could become impassable.

The NWS stated that impacts will vary due to differences in precipitation amounts over short distances. A mix of sleet and freezing rain is likely, with the highest ice potential along a central corridor extending from Graham to Paris.

Travelers should exercise caution, delay non-essential trips, and prepare for potential disruptions. Officials will continue monitoring the storm’s progress, and additional updates are expected throughout Thursday and Friday.
