Amarillo, TX – Confidence is growing for a winter storm to impact the Texas Panhandle Thursday, potentially dropping up to 4 inches of snow. The storm will primarily affect areas south of a line from Vega to Canadian, with the heaviest snowfall expected between late morning and early evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, snow is likely to accumulate in the 1 to 3-inch range, with isolated areas reaching 4 inches. Winds accompanying the storm will increase Thursday afternoon, leading to reduced visibility and hazardous travel conditions. Temperatures will fall from the 30s into the teens by nightfall, with wind chills nearing zero in some areas.

Snowfall is forecast to begin as early as 5 a.m. Thursday and end by 3 a.m. Friday. Blowing snow and icy conditions are expected to impact travel throughout the day, especially between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m., when snowfall will be heaviest.
