Kansas City, MO – Light snow will move into the Kansas City area Thursday evening, with snowfall continuing into Friday morning. Up to 3 inches of snow are expected, especially in the southern parts of the region.
The National Weather Service in Kansas City issued a Winter Weather Advisory beginning at 9 p.m. Thursday and lasting until 9 a.m. Friday. According to the advisory, the heaviest snowfall will likely occur overnight, with reduced accumulation in northern areas. Forecasters urge drivers to exercise caution during the evening commute and overnight travel as roads may become slick.
The snowfall will impact areas including Sedalia, Clinton, and Nevada, which are forecast to see the highest totals. Northern regions, including Kansas City proper, are likely to receive lighter snowfall amounts. Temperatures will hover near freezing, increasing the potential for icy patches on roadways and bridges.
Local officials are preparing road crews to treat highways and major thoroughfares ahead of the snowfall. Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from the National Weather Service and delay non-essential travel during the advisory. The storm system is expected to move out of the area by mid-morning Friday, leaving clearing skies by the afternoon.
