St. Louis, MO – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for areas south of I-70, including southeast Missouri and southwest Illinois. Snowfall of 3-5 inches is expected to arrive late Thursday evening, potentially disrupting Friday morning commutes.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in St. Louis, the snow will begin Thursday night and continue through Friday afternoon. The heaviest accumulation is projected in southeast Missouri and southwest Illinois. Commuters along I-70 could face delays due to snow-covered roads and low visibility.

The advisory urges residents to exercise caution during this period, especially during the Friday morning commute. The NWS recommends leaving early and allowing extra travel time to ensure safety. Areas most affected by the snowstorm include towns near Cape Girardeau, MO, and Carbondale, IL.

Temperatures will remain near freezing, which increases the likelihood of slick road conditions. Crews are preparing to treat major highways and interstates, but drivers are advised to stay alert for changing conditions.

Meteorologists expect the snowfall to taper off by Friday afternoon. While southeastern Missouri and southwestern Illinois will see the highest totals, light snow may affect other areas. Travelers should monitor weather updates and check road conditions before heading out.

This winter storm follows a season of sporadic snowfalls, highlighting the need for preparedness. Residents are advised to have emergency kits ready and ensure their vehicles are winter-ready.
