Los Angeles, CA – Residents across Southern California are being advised to prepare for possible evacuations as extreme wildfire risks intensify due to high winds and dry conditions. The Red Cross is urging communities to take immediate action to ensure safety during this hazardous weather event.

Red Flag and high-wind warnings remain in effect through Thursday, with winds reaching speeds of up to 80 mph in some areas, according to the National Weather Service. These conditions increase the potential for fast-moving wildfires, particularly in Los Angeles, Ventura, and surrounding counties.

The Red Cross has deployed disaster response teams to assist evacuees and provide support at local shelters. In a social media post Wednesday, the organization advised residents to take several key precautions:

Assemble a “go-bag” with emergency supplies, medications, and important documents.

Keep pets in a single, accessible room to streamline evacuation efforts.

Park vehicles facing the evacuation route for quick departures.

“If a wildfire threatens your area, readiness is critical,” the Red Cross emphasized.

Officials also recommend staying informed by monitoring alerts through weather radios, mobile apps, and local news. Evacuation orders can happen quickly, and preparation is vital to avoid delays.

Once the Red Flag Warning lifts Thursday evening, cooler temperatures and lighter winds are expected. However, the elevated fire risk persists due to prolonged dry conditions in the region. Residents should remain cautious and avoid activities that could ignite fires, such as outdoor burning or equipment use.

For assistance, residents are encouraged to contact local Red Cross chapters or visit community evacuation centers.

Stay tuned for further updates as conditions evolve.
