Palisades Fire Claims Two Lives, Burns Nearly 3,000 Acres as High Winds Persist

Los Angeles, CA – The Palisades Fire has claimed two lives and scorched nearly 3,000 acres as extreme wind gusts nearing 100 mph continue to fuel its rapid spread. Evacuation orders remain in place for residents north to Mulholland Drive, east to Kenter Road, and south to Pacific Coast Highway (PCH).

The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) reported Wednesday morning that the blaze, driven by powerful Santa Ana winds, has overwhelmed firefighting efforts in the Santa Monica Mountains and surrounding areas. The extreme conditions have caused widespread damage, with officials warning of more potential losses as dry vegetation and gusty winds exacerbate fire behavior.

Road closures, including a stretch of PCH from McClure Tunnel in Santa Monica to Topanga Canyon, remain in effect as the LAPD facilitates evacuations. Authorities are urging residents to evacuate immediately if in the affected areas and to secure their homes by turning off power and gas before leaving.

Shelters such as the Westwood Recreation Center are open to evacuees and small pets, while large animals can be brought to the Los Angeles Equestrian Center. The Red Cross has also mobilized to provide additional support.

The Red Flag Warning remains in effect through Thursday, with weather forecasts showing high winds easing by Friday. However, fire officials caution that conditions remain highly volatile.

Residents outside the evacuation zone should prepare for emergencies by assembling “go-bags,” keeping pets accessible, and staying informed through local alerts.
