Lake Charles, LA – Residents in Louisiana face a dangerous combination of freezing wind chills and heavy rain as a cold front continues to grip the region. A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect through 8 a.m. Wednesday, with temperatures expected to stay below freezing in some areas and wind chills dropping as low as 20 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service, frostbite and hypothermia risks are high if skin remains exposed to the elements. Those traveling along I-10 near Acadiana and other coastal areas should exercise caution, as icy winds and reduced visibility may impact driving conditions.
Precipitation is forecast to return Thursday afternoon, bringing an increased risk of flash flooding. Local forecasters predict heavy rain Thursday night, with areas near Lake Charles, Alexandria, and Woodville under a Marginal Risk for excessive rainfall. Residents should prepare for rapid water accumulation, especially in low-lying areas.
Daytime highs will slowly rise by the weekend, with temperatures nearing 50 degrees on Saturday. However, Thursday and Friday’s rain could bring localized flooding and hazardous driving conditions. Winds gusting up to 25 mph will make outdoor activities uncomfortable.
Local officials urge residents to dress warmly in layers, limit time outdoors, and check on neighbors who may need assistance. Motorists are advised to monitor weather updates and avoid flooded roadways.
