Texas Winter Storm Warning Begins Thursday: Hazardous Travel Expected Along I-20

Dallas, TX – North Texas residents are urged to prepare for hazardous road conditions as a winter storm moves into the region Thursday morning. Forecasters predict snow, sleet, and freezing rain, particularly along the I-20 corridor, making travel dangerous through Friday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a Winter Storm Warning will take effect at 6 a.m. Thursday and remain in place until noon Friday. Snow accumulations between 2–4 inches are expected, with isolated areas seeing up to 8 inches. Freezing rain with ice accumulation up to 0.10 inches will further complicate travel. Untreated roads, especially bridges and overpasses, are likely to become slick and hazardous.

Residents should consider altering travel plans or staying off the roads entirely during peak storm hours Thursday afternoon and evening. If travel is unavoidable, officials recommend keeping an emergency kit in your car, including water, food, blankets, and a flashlight.

Thursday’s forecast includes high temperatures near 36°F with mixed precipitation starting in the late morning. By evening, the precipitation will transition to snow, continuing overnight. Friday morning’s commute will likely remain treacherous as temperatures hover near freezing.

The weekend promises relief, with sunny skies returning Saturday and Sunday and temperatures reaching the upper 40s. However, officials caution that lingering icy spots may remain on shaded roadways through Saturday morning.
