Western New York Faces Up to 10 Inches of Lake-Effect Snow by Thursday Morning

Jamestown, NY – Residents of western New York are bracing for up to 10 inches of lake-effect snow by Thursday morning, with difficult travel conditions expected in Chautauqua County and surrounding areas.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. Thursday, with snow accumulations expected to be heaviest in higher terrain and far western portions of Chautauqua County. Areas closer to the lakeshore and northern portions of the county are expected to see lesser amounts.

Additional advisories are in place for Wayne, Northern Cayuga, and Oswego counties, where similar snow totals are expected, compounded by wind gusts of up to 40 mph. These conditions may cause blowing snow and reduced visibility, particularly during the Tuesday evening, Wednesday morning, and Wednesday evening commutes.

The NWS warns drivers to prepare for rapidly changing weather and road conditions, especially in narrow bands of heavy lake-effect snow.

Officials urge residents to monitor local updates and use caution when traveling. Snowfall reports can be submitted via the NWS website or social media platforms.
