Memphis, TN – A significant winter storm is expected to impact portions of East Arkansas, North Mississippi, Southeast Missouri, and West Tennessee from Thursday evening through late Friday night, with snow accumulations of up to 6 inches forecasted in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Memphis, heavy snow is possible, with total accumulations ranging between 3 and 6 inches across most affected regions. North Mississippi could also see a light glaze of ice alongside snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches. These conditions are likely to make roads, bridges, and overpasses slick and hazardous, posing a risk to drivers during Friday’s morning and evening commutes.

The NWS advises residents to monitor updated forecasts and delay non-essential travel during the storm. If travel is unavoidable, drivers should exercise caution, reduce speed, and ensure vehicles are winterized and prepared for emergencies.

Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing during much of the event, contributing to hazardous driving conditions and potential disruptions. This marks the first major winter weather event of the season for the region.
