Possible snowfall in New York City on Monday due to Winter Storm Blair

New York City could potentially see snow and ice at the beginning of the week as a winter storm makes its way across the country.

Winter Storm Blair will be moving east from the Rockies throughout the weekend and is set to reach the mid-Atlantic by Sunday night. This storm is expected to bring icy conditions that could potentially affect Monday’s commute.

The weekend in New York City is expected to be sunny, with temperatures reaching a few degrees above freezing. However, it will become colder overnight on Sunday, with temperatures dropping to the mid-to-high 20s by Monday morning.

According to AccuWeather, Monday will be a cloudy day in the city with intermittent flurries expected. The flurries are expected to occur mainly from late morning to mid-afternoon.

While there is a chance of accumulating around an inch of snow, it is important to note that the storm’s track could potentially change, leading to heavier snowfall.

The National Weather Service issued an update on Friday evening for southeast New York and northeast New Jersey, stating that travel could be affected during the Monday morning and afternoon commutes.

The exact track of low pressure is still uncertain, which means that slight deviations could either increase or decrease the amount of snowfall by a few inches.

According to The Weather Channel, areas further south, such as Baltimore and Washington, D.C., may experience snowfall of up to 6 inches.

Blair, dubbed as the most extensive winter storm of the season thus far, has made its way across the United States. Starting with the Pacific Northwest and Rockies, it brought heavy rain and snowfall before continuing its journey from one coast to another.

The residents of the Central Plains and a large part of the Midwest have been cautioned about the potential for “travel conditions becoming increasingly dangerous.”

Some areas may receive over a foot of fresh snow, leading to the possibility of damaged trees and power lines in eastern Kansas, Missouri, lower Illinois, and much of Kentucky throughout the weekend.

By Monday night, the wintry weather is expected to subside throughout the county. However, there may still be some remaining snow and ice that could potentially impact morning commutes on Tuesday.

The weather forecast for the rest of the week in New York City predicts sunny skies, accompanied by chilly temperatures that will hover around or slightly above freezing.
