Texas Braces for Freezing Temperatures as a Polar Vortex Approaches

Winter has arrived, and with the arrival of 2025, you may have noticed that the temperatures have been unusually warm for this time of year. However, brace yourself for what’s to come next week.

A drastic change is on the horizon as a blast of Arctic cold weather is expected to sweep across Texas and the southwest, causing temperatures to plummet.

Next week, Texas is expected to experience cold temperatures, while the eastern half of the United States will face brutally cold weather. However, this could be just the beginning of arctic weather making its way from Canada to Texas.

How Cold Will It Be In Texas During the next Polar Vortex?

According to The Dallas Morning News, the exact extent of the cold temperatures expected in Texas next week is still uncertain. However, it is anticipated that certain parts of north Texas may experience lows in the 30s and below for several days.

According to a forecast by the National Weather Service, temperatures in Lubbock next Tuesday are expected to reach the mid 30’s, with lows in the 20’s.

Will Texas See a Major Snow Storm Next Week?

A few days ago, and even as recently as last week when forecasters initially spotted this front approaching Texas, there was a possibility of freezing conditions.

However, today, the chances are not as favorable as before. Nevertheless, it would still be wise to stay vigilant regarding potential icy streets and overpasses, particularly if individuals leave their sprinkler systems on.

This is crucial considering the anticipated lows in the 20s next week in Lubbock and the Panhandle.

It can be incredibly difficult to accurately predict the occurrence and location of snow this far in advance. However, we can expect to have a better understanding of the weather conditions by Monday.

Get ready for chilly temperatures starting next Tuesday.
