Probability of Winter Storm Growing

The National Weather Service (NWS) has released important information regarding the upcoming winter storm expected in our area from Sunday, January 5th to Monday, January 6th.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has expressed increasing certainty about an approaching winter storm that is expected to bring significant wintry conditions throughout the weekend.

The impact of the storm will initially be felt in the Northern Plains on Friday, followed by the Central Plains, Ohio/Tennessee Valleys, and the Mid-Atlantic region throughout the weekend and into early next week.

Widespread Heavy Snow Could Occur in Central Plains and Mississippi Valley

Areas in the Central Plains and Mississippi Valley, particularly those along and north of Interstate 70, may experience heavy snow.

Moreover, this heavy snow potential is expected to extend eastward through the Ohio Valley on Sunday, with the possibility of reaching the Mid-Atlantic region by Sunday night and Monday.

Forecast Changes Expected: The timing and location of the storm track are still uncertain, and these factors will determine where the most significant impacts will occur.

The National Weather Service frequently depends on the National Blend of Models (NBM) for their snowfall predictions.

According to FOX 5 meteorologist Mike Thomas, the NBM is currently indicating an average snowfall of 4-6 inches or more for our area on Monday.

However, it’s important to note that these snow totals are still very preliminary, so we shouldn’t consider them as definitive just yet.
