Cold Front Arrives Wednesday, Bringing Rain and Temperature Drop

Cold Front to Bring Showers, Cooler Temperatures This Week

A stronger cold front is expected to move through the area on Wednesday, bringing early showers and thunderstorms as it progresses from the northwest to the southeast.

Morning temperatures will start near 60°F, with highs ranging from the mid-60s to mid-70s depending on location.

For example, Oxford is expected to peak around 9 a.m., while areas like Macon and Columbus may reach their highest temperatures in the mid-70s after midday.

Temperatures will drop significantly by late evening, making it the coldest part of the day. While rain coverage will be most widespread early, isolated showers could persist into the afternoon.

Behind the front, drier and cooler air will settle in, with Thursday morning starting in the upper 30s and daytime highs reaching only the mid-50s under mostly sunny skies—typical for this time of year.

Friday will see an even colder start in the mid-30s, with the arrival of another cold front limiting afternoon highs to the upper 40s and low 50s. Skies will remain mostly clear heading into Saturday, which is forecast to begin in the mid-20s and reach only the mid-40s by afternoon, falling below seasonal norms.

Sunday is expected to follow a similar pattern, starting in the mid-20s and climbing to the mid-40s by afternoon. Dry weather should persist through the weekend, with rain chances not anticipated until next week.

Looking further ahead, Christmas may bring rain, though forecasts are still uncertain with eight days to go. Temperatures are projected to be mild, with highs potentially in the upper 50s or 60s, depending on how returning moisture influences rain chances.
