New Mexico – Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham recently nominated Ricardo Gonzales, Regional Vice President at El Paso Electric (EPE), to a four-year term on the New Mexico State University (NMSU) Board of Regents.
The Board of Regents plays a crucial role in overseeing NMSU’s operations, governance, and policies, including approving all degrees and overseeing the university’s president. Additionally, the Board oversees the New Mexico Department of Agriculture, which is housed at NMSU, a land-grant institution.
Gonzales expressed his pride in the nomination on LinkedIn, stating, “As an Aggie, I’m incredibly proud to have been nominated to the New Mexico State University Board of Regents. As a kid, I remember cruising campus and cheering on the Aggie basketball teams; I could never have imagined an opportunity like this. Thank you, Michelle Lujan Grisham.”

Gonzales brings extensive experience in New Mexico’s utility sector, having led EPE’s operations, strategy, and government relations. His career also includes serving as the legislative affairs director for both NMSU and the New Mexico Department of Agriculture. Gonzales holds a bachelor’s degree in history from NMSU.
Looking forward, Gonzales commented on his commitment to working with NMSU’s new president and expanding the university’s impact across both urban and rural New Mexico. “I look forward to working with our new President and the university community as we extend our engagement and impact across the Mesilla Valley, urban and rural New Mexico. Go Aggies,” he said.
In New Mexico, regents are nominated by the governor and require confirmation by the state senate, which is expected to take place during the upcoming legislative session. NMSU regents serve staggered six-year terms.
