Rapper OG Maco, best known for his 2014 breakout hit “U Guessed It,” has passed away at the age of 32.
According to a report by TMZ, the artist, whose real name was Benedict Ihesiba Jr., died after being hospitalized for several weeks following a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The incident occurred on December 12 at his Los Angeles home. Police were alerted after a neighbor reported hearing a gunshot, and Maco was rushed to the hospital. A firearm was recovered at the scene.
At the time, false reports of his death circulated on social media, but his manager, Poppa Percccc, confirmed Maco was still alive and requested prayers for his recovery. Despite medical efforts, including attempts to drain toxins from his system and conduct brain scans, his health deteriorated while he was in a coma. Tragically, Maco passed away last night surrounded by family at a Los Angeles hospital.

Tributes Pour In
Fans and fellow artists are mourning the loss, sharing heartfelt tributes online. “RIP OG MACO… THANK YOU FOR ONE OF THE BEST SONGS FRESHMAN YEAR OF COLLEGE,” wrote one fan. Another emphasized the importance of addressing mental health issues: “Rip to my dawg JAY. Suicide is not the answer ever! Mental illness is real in all men. Many Black men suffer from this mind disease. Nobody to vent to, nobody to listen to their pain and cries for help. They suffer in silence, using drugs and drinking it away until they can no longer take the pain. It’s a real issue. Check on your people.”
OG Maco’s death adds to a growing list of young talent lost too soon in the hip-hop community this year, leaving fans and peers reflecting on the challenges of mental health in the music industry.
He will be remembered for his artistry, energy, and impact on the rap world. Rest in peace, OG Maco.
