Toyota to Build $922M Paint Facility at Georgetown Plant by 2027

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky (TMMK) is set to grow significantly with the addition of a new 1-million-square-foot facility scheduled to open in 2027. The expansion will enhance production capabilities while reducing environmental impact, cutting carbon emissions by 30% and conserving 1.5 million gallons of water annually. This initiative aligns with Toyota’s ambitious goal of achieving zero carbon emissions by 2050 and introduces advanced paint technologies to provide vibrant and diverse color options.

The announcement builds on Toyota’s earlier $1.3 billion investment in its Georgetown facility to support the assembly of a new three-row battery electric SUV set to launch in 2026. Since its establishment in 1986, Toyota has invested over $11 billion in Kentucky, reinforcing its commitment to the state and its workforce.

Kerry Creech, president of Toyota Kentucky, emphasized the dual benefits of the investment: “Not only will our customers enjoy dynamic and stylish exterior finishes, but Toyota’s advanced paint technologies also underscore our leadership in environmentally responsible manufacturing. This year alone, over $2 billion is being reinvested in our plant, ensuring long-term job security for our team members.”

A Legacy of Innovation

TMMK has a storied history of innovation. In 2006, it became Toyota’s first U.S. plant to manufacture hybrid electric vehicles and later began assembling fuel cell modules for hydrogen-powered commercial trucks. The Georgetown plant is integral to Toyota’s global electrification strategy, aiming to offer electric or hybrid versions of every vehicle model by 2025.

As Toyota’s largest production facility worldwide, TMMK employs approximately 10,000 team members and has produced over 12 million vehicles since opening in 1988. Its current production capacity includes 550,000 vehicles and 600,000 engines annually, supported by more than 350 suppliers across the U.S., including 100 in Kentucky.

Commitment to Electrification and Community

Toyota has announced over $20 billion in investments in U.S. manufacturing since 2020 to accelerate its electrification goals. Expanding battery electric vehicle (BEV) production in the U.S. complements Toyota’s portfolio approach to sustainable mobility.

Beyond manufacturing, Toyota continues to invest in the communities it serves, focusing on education and workforce development. In Kentucky alone, Toyota has contributed over $154 million in local donations since 1986, supporting meaningful initiatives across the Bluegrass State.

This latest investment solidifies TMMK’s role as a cornerstone of Toyota’s future, blending sustainability, innovation, and community engagement to drive long-term growth.
