Historic Snowfall Predicted for New Mexico

New Mexico – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter storm warning covering most of northern, western, and central New Mexico, predicting a significant storm that could bring historic snowfall to some areas.

Major Snowfall Expected in Northeastern New Mexico
According to KRQE Meteorologist Liz Fellinger, northeastern New Mexico is likely to see the heaviest snowfall, with some areas forecasted to receive more than 35 inches of snow. Snowfall is expected to begin Wednesday night and persist through Friday night. In Albuquerque, snowfall amounts are predicted to range from a light dusting to up to 4 inches.

Mountain Areas to See Feet of Snow
Mountain regions, including the Sangre de Cristo, Jemez, Sandia, and Manzano ranges, are expected to receive substantial snowfall, with accumulations measured in feet. Key areas such as Los Alamos, Raton, Angel Fire, Red River, and Las Vegas could see over a foot of snow, as per NWS predictions.

Travel Disruptions Likely
The storm is expected to cause hazardous travel conditions along major routes, including the I-40 and I-25 corridors. Some parts of the state may experience blizzard-like conditions, with strong winds exceeding 35 mph, blowing snow, and significantly reduced visibility.
