President Biden Grants Clemency to Paul John Garcia of Las Vegas, New Mexico


New Mexico – On December 12, President Joe Biden issued clemency to 1,538 individuals, including 39 pardons and 1,499 commutations. Among those granted commutation was Paul John Garcia, a 72-year-old resident of Las Vegas, New Mexico.

“These commutation recipients, who were placed on home confinement during the COVID pandemic, have successfully reintegrated into their families and communities and have shown that they deserve a second chance,” President Biden stated in a White House press release.

Who is Paul John Garcia?

Garcia, now in his seventies, pleaded guilty to non-violent theft charges. Since his conviction, he has built a stable life, securing employment in the medical field and dedicating himself to community service.

The White House highlighted Garcia’s active volunteerism, particularly his work with a charity focused on mentoring and supporting youth. “Mr. Garcia is known for his extraordinary and compassionate delivery of patient care and his commitment to volunteerism,” the statement read.

A U.S. Navy veteran, Garcia earned the National Defense Service Medal and other awards during his military service. His contributions and character were key factors in his receiving clemency.
