Two individuals lost their lives on Monday morning in Kansas City, Missouri, as a result of being struck by a street racer, according to the Kansas City Police Department.
The crash occurred at approximately 10:25 a.m. on December 30th on Wornall Road, located just south of I-435.
According to investigators, two cars, a black Chrysler 300 and a silver Dodge Charger, were engaged in a street race heading south on Wornall Road from 99th Street. Meanwhile, a silver Honda HRV traveling north on Wornall Road began to make a left turn onto Carondolet Drive.
A tragic accident occurred when a speeding Chrysler collided with a Honda, resulting in the loss of both the driver and passenger’s lives.
Authorities have confirmed that the victims were both adults. The driver of the Chrysler sustained injuries and was immediately transported to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, medical professionals anticipate their recovery.
A utility pole that had been knocked down was being replaced on Monday night. A nearby individual captured a photograph that revealed the pole being broken but still standing, as it was carried several feet away.
According to a spokesperson from the Kansas City Police Department (KCPD), detectives are currently collaborating with prosecutors to assess potential charges against the drivers involved in the street racing incident.
The Kansas City Police Department has reported that the deaths of the victims mark the 96th and 97th crash fatalities of 2024.
