Identity of woman found dead at Queens highway interchange in 1991 finally discovered

Authorities announced on Monday that they have finally identified the woman who was found dead with her ankles tied at the intersection of two highways in Queens in 1991, more than 30 years ago.

According to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, advanced DNA technology has been used to identify the victim of the reported missing person case from earlier this year. Judy Rodriguez, a 30-year-old woman from New York, has been confirmed as the victim.

Rodriguez was last seen alive on January 23, 1991, during her youngest daughter’s first birthday party. Her family grew concerned after they were unable to find her soon after the event, leading them to report her as missing.

According to police, the individuals came back to the location where Rodriguez had been killed two weeks later and made an effort to conceal her body. In his press release, Katz did not disclose the names of the four suspects, who were between the ages of 18 and 20. All four of them were found guilty and have now served their prison sentences for the crime.

“This case exemplifies the unwavering commitment of my Cold Case Unit in identifying victims and resolving the most longstanding and difficult homicides in the borough,” stated Katz.
