Head-on collision in Dallas following police chase involving stolen vehicle results in fatality


A fatal crash in Dallas occurred on Saturday following a police chase.

The Fort Worth Police Department and the Texas Department of Safety engaged in a pursuit of an armed suspect inside a stolen vehicle, starting at around 1:30 p.m.

The vehicle cruised down Chisholm Trail Parkway in Fort Worth before reaching its destination in Dallas.

During the pursuit, the stolen 2024 Jeep Wagoneer reached speeds of up to 120 miles per hour while maneuvering assertively between lanes. Additionally, law enforcement observed that the vehicle utilized both the inside and outside shoulders to evade capture.

The pursuit came to a halt as the Jeep veered onto the wrong side of the service road on I-35 and Inwood Road in Dallas, colliding head-on with a 2015 Audi A4.

Joel Jusino Bergollo, a 36-year-old resident of Downers Grover, Illinois, tragically lost his life as the driver of the Audi vehicle.

Devonte Webber, the suspect, has been apprehended and is now in the custody of the Dallas County Jail. He is facing multiple charges including murder, evading arrest with a vehicle resulting in death, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

The authorities reported that the Wagoneer Webber was driving during the chase had been stolen from Chicago.

According to an affidavit for an arrest warrant, Webber is accused of fleeing from the police in Burleson earlier in the day following an alleged robbery.

In addition, a black Glock model .357 was discovered inside the vehicle.
