Salina Homeowner Passes Away After Property Deemed Dangerous
SALINA, Kan. – A Salina homeowner has passed away after their residence, located at 122 E. Jewell Ave., was declared a dangerous structure by city officials.
On October 14, 2024, Sean Furbeck, the city’s dangerous structures specialist, recommended that the property be deemed unsafe.
The City of Salina provided the homeowner with a timeline to either repair or demolish the property. A demolition permit was required by November 13, 2024, while repairs needed to be initiated by November 28, 2024.
However, no permits were submitted, and further investigation revealed that the homeowner had passed away on November 14, 2024.
Furbeck reached out to the homeowner’s family members to inquire whether they wished to retain ownership of the property, but the family declined the offer. The family’s attorney indicated they had little interest in the residence.
Salina Mayor Bill Longbine expressed sympathy for the family’s loss, and the city commissioners voted to proceed with the demolition of the structure.
