Adams County -A judge has issued an order for parents Jarvis Sims, 42, and Christina Thurman, 33, to stay away from their 1-month-old son after the baby was discovered abandoned on Christmas Day near a gas station in Adams County.
The incident unfolded around 9:20 a.m. when a Good Samaritan spotted the baby in a car seat, wearing only a diaper, in the median at 7490 Pecos Street and immediately called 911. Deputies responded and located the boy’s parents, who were arrested on charges of felony child abuse. Both Sims and Thurman are currently being held in the Adams County Detention Facility on $50,000 bonds each.
Sgt. Adam Sherman of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office expressed his disbelief over the situation, stating, “No child should be put in that predicament, especially a one-month-old, completely dependent on others.” The baby was rushed to Children’s Hospital Colorado in Broomfield, where it was revealed through a urine test that the child had cocaine in his system. The child was then placed under the legal custody of the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS).

According to court documents, a witness observed an argument between the parents before Sims left the baby in the median, telling the witness, “That’s her kid. Give it to her.” Investigators say Sims set the baby down on the sidewalk and went home, leaving the infant in the witness’s care for nearly an hour before 911 was called.
The arrest affidavit also revealed that Sims had been involved in a domestic violence incident earlier in the year, with charges related to hitting Thurman in March. A mandatory protection order had been issued in September following that incident.
Community assistance played a vital role in the investigation. Sgt. Sherman thanked local residents and social media users for their quick response, which helped authorities gather critical information.
Sims and Thurman are scheduled to appear in court on December 30 at 1:30 p.m.
