An accident in Kansas City claimed the life of one person early Thursday morning, around 4 a.m.
According to Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a black BMW 535I was speeding northbound on Hardesty at Winner in Kansas City.
In the Winner Road vicinity, the BMW veered across the double yellow line, proceeding northbound in the southbound lanes of Hardesty. Consequently, the BMW collided with a concrete traffic median and a metal traffic signal pole before continuing its northbound trajectory across Winner Road.
The BMW zoomed up a grassy hill and soared over a private driveway, crashing into a building before finally coming to a stop.
The driver of the BMW died at the scene, while the front seat passenger was taken to a nearby hospital with severe injuries. Fortunately, the passenger’s condition has stabilized, and authorities are still investigating the incident.
According to Gonzalez, the number of fatalities this year is 93, which is lower than the 100 fatalities reported at this time last year.
