Top Baby Names in New Mexico for 2024: What’s Trending This Year

The New Mexico Department of Health recently unveiled the top baby names for 2024, offering a glimpse into the state’s latest naming trends. The list, compiled by the Bureau of Vital Records and Health Statistics, is provisional and may change as more births are recorded in the final weeks of the year.

Leading the girls’ list are Camila, Mia, and Emma, while Noah, Liam, and Ezekiel top the boys’ list. These names reflect ongoing trends, with several favorites remaining strong contenders.

Here are some notable trends identified by the Department of Health:

  • Consistency at the Top: Eight names in the Top 10 for both boys and girls have remained in place for three consecutive years.
  • Levi and Oliver’s Return: After a brief absence, Levi and Oliver have rejoined the boys’ list, replacing Josiah and Julian. Levi last appeared in 2021, while Oliver returned in 2022.
  • Aurora and Emily’s Comeback: These classic names have reappeared on the girls’ list for the first time since 2017, taking the spots previously held by Aria and Luna.
  • Sofia vs. Sophia: Both names continue to be strong contenders for the girls’ Top 10, making appearances in seven of the past 10 years.
  • Noah and Liam’s Rivalry: Noah has reclaimed the top spot for boys’ names from Liam, continuing their long-standing competition for the number one spot over the past seven years.

As the year draws to a close, it’s likely that the final list will see a few more shifts, but these names are certainly leading the pack in New Mexico for 2024.
