The FBI is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Jeremiah Hight, a 23-year-old man suspected of fatally shooting a 7-year-old boy on the Ute Mountain Ute Reservation in Colorado earlier this month.
The shooting occurred on December 11 at a residence in Towaoc, located on the tribal reservation in the Four Corners region, where Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah converge. Authorities have not released details about the events leading up to the shooting, but the FBI described the incident as “targeted at a residence.”
An arrest warrant for Hight, a member of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, was issued last Thursday. He faces charges of murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence. The warrant remains sealed, preventing further disclosure of specific case details.
The victim has been identified as 7-year-old Zamias Lang. According to Montezuma County Coroner George Deavers, the boy succumbed to injuries sustained in the shooting. An online fundraiser organized to cover funeral expenses described Zamias as a “bright and loving” child.

In response to the tragedy, Ute Mountain Ute Tribal Chairman Manuel Heart denounced the violence in a video message, calling the incident “senseless.” Heart urged the community to let law enforcement handle the investigation, discouraging any retaliatory actions.
Heart also announced plans to propose a resolution to request additional federal law enforcement officers for the reservation. Another resolution under consideration would ban shooting within the reservation’s two communities, Towaoc in Colorado and White Mesa in Utah.
“We are not going to have any more of these types of events where somebody gets shot,” Heart stated, emphasizing the need to prevent future tragedies.
The FBI continues to investigate the case and encourages anyone with information about Hight’s whereabouts to come forward.
