A nomination is required to attend prestigious institutions such as the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. However, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy does not require a nomination. According to Heinrich’s office, “being nominated is a significant honor,” and only the most qualified candidates are selected through a rigorous application process.
“I am proud to announce this year’s nominees who represent the best of New Mexico,” said Heinrich. “These students have demonstrated exceptional dedication, and I commend them for their commitment to serving our country. The education and training they will receive at our nation’s service academies will equip them for leadership roles in the military and beyond.”

The U.S. Service Academies offer four-year college programs, with graduates receiving commissions in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Merchant Marine, or Coast Guard. They are then required to serve at least five years in active duty.
