The 2024 election in New Mexico officially concluded on December 16, with the State Canvassing Board certifying the results of two races that underwent automatic recounts.
One of the races was for the New Mexico House District 57 seat, where Republican Catherine Cullen and Democrat Michelle Sandoval were separated by less than 1% of the vote, triggering the recount. After the retally, Cullen emerged victorious by 133 votes. This seat had been held by Jason Harper since 2013, who announced in March that he would not seek re-election.
District 57 encompasses several neighborhoods in Rio Rancho, including Enchanted Hills, Mariposa, Northern Meadows, North Hills, Mountain Hawk, and Cleveland Heights.
The second race requiring a recount was for a Los Alamos County Council seat, where Republican David Reagor defeated Democrat Denise Derkacs.
