Sgt. Alfonso Deocampo of the New Mexico National Guard was honored at the White House on December 2 for his heroic service with the Community Emergency Response Team. Deocampo played a crucial role in the rescue efforts during devastating floods in Chaves County and Roswell earlier this year, contributing to 193 water rescues.
As part of the recognition, Deocampo and his family were flown to Washington, D.C., where they had the opportunity to meet First Lady Jill Biden during the “Joining Forces” holiday reception, which celebrated National Guard members from across the country.
In addition to meeting the First Lady, the family attended Biden’s speech on issues affecting soldiers and military families, toured the White House, and enjoyed a performance by the White House band.
